Letter from the Administrator

Happy August, Hurst Plaza Residents, Staff and Families!

I hope you are all doing your best to stay cool during these summer months, and most importantly, I hope you are all staying safe! As another month comes and goes with the pandemic still being the focal point for all of us, rest assured that we at Hurst Plaza are staying vigilant to ensure the safety of all our Residents and staff.

I’ve made this announcement in staff meetings and Resident Council meetings, but I’ll do it again here. At some point (and I wish I knew when!) when things are back to “normal,” we are going to have “Hurst Plaza Week.” This will simply be a fun-filled week of dress up days, games, fun and food to celebrate our Residents and staff. We usually do this each year with National Nursing Home Week, but the pandemic put a damper on that in 2020. However, I am determined to make up for it when the time is right!

As far as other announcements go, we are still busy working on renovation projects to update the look of the facility we all know and love. Here’s a shout out to our great maintenance team consisting of our Maintenance Director David Cardona and his trusty sidekick Ellis Sample. A second shout out to Ellis for being named this month’s Employee of the Month!

So far, our improvements have seen a transformation of our front halls and nurses station. We still have some decorating to do, but slowly, we are transforming Hurst Plaza!

I also would like to take a second to give a shout out to some of our department leaders who are or have recently celebrated anniversaries with us here at Hurst Plaza. Linda Andreas (RN MDS Coordinator) has been with us for 2 years now, and she plays an integral part into the success of our daily operations! Temika Burnham (LVN Staffing Coordinator/Medical Records Director/Central Supply) has also been with us for 2 years, and she is always busy with her seemingly never-ending list of tasks (a special kudos for helping manage the staffing challenges that COVID-19 have brought us)! Lastly, Delores Vela (Hospital Liaison) is celebrating her 1-year anniversary with us, and she’s the mastermind behind our great social media videos!

As always, my office is always open. I love to hear from you all, and I hope we can do it in a “normal” setting sooner rather than later. Reach out with any questions in regards to our current protocols, and I’ll be more than happy to go over them with you.

Stay safe and God bless!

David Collier, LNFA
